This soil moisture monitoring equipment is a highly integrated, automated instrument designed for soil moisture assessment. Featuring an integrated sensor design, it can simultaneously measure soil moisture content, temperature, electrical conductivity, and pH levels. Equipped with a wireless transmission module and a solar power supply system, the device enables dynamic observation of multi-layer soil parameters in remote, unattended field environments.


The equipment serves as a specialized instrument for the real-time monitoring of key parameters such as soil moisture content, soil temperature, and soil electrical conductivity. Utilizing dedicated moisture and temperature sensors, it measures the soil's volumetric water content and temperature values; furthermore, based on user requirements, its configuration can be expanded to include additional meteorological sensors for measuring soil pH, air temperature, air humidity, solar radiation, and rainfall. One specific model—a wireless, remote, multi-layer, and multi-dimensional soil moisture monitor—employs a three-layer sensor architecture for soil temperature and humidity. It features a soil moisture measurement range of 0% to 100% with an accuracy of ±3%, and a soil temperature measurement range of -40°C to 125°C with an accuracy of ±0.5°C. The device supports various transmission methods—including wired connections, GPRS, and Bluetooth—and can be deployed by a single individual within 30 minutes, ensuring rapid installation and maintenance-free operation.


The soil moisture monitoring equipment features a modular design that offers excellent scalability. In addition to the core parameters of soil moisture, temperature, and electrical conductivity, optional sensors can be added to measure soil pH, air temperature and humidity, solar radiation, and rainfall (via optical sensors). The device utilizes a dual-power supply scheme—combining solar energy with lithium-ion batteries—enabling continuous operation for over 180 days and effectively meeting the long-term monitoring requirements of unattended field sites. Data is uploaded in real-time via 4G or NB-IoT networks to a cloud-based platform, allowing users to remotely access real-time data and historical trend charts via a mobile app or web interface; the system also supports threshold-based alerts and push notifications for anomalous data.


In terms of industrial application, this soil moisture monitoring equipment has been successfully deployed in numerous agricultural projects across China. For instance, in the "Farmland Soil Moisture Monitoring Station Construction Project" in Lvliang City, the unit price for a fixed-station automatic soil moisture monitor was 16,000 RMB, while the unit price for a tubular-probe automatic soil moisture monitor was 5,500 RMB; the project involved the procurement of a total of 7 fixed monitoring stations and 28 tubular monitoring units. For the procurement project of soil moisture monitoring instruments by the Dongtai City Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the winning bid for the batch of equipment amounted to 125,000 RMB. Hohai University procured four sets of soil moisture monitoring systems with a budget of 192,000 RMB, placing the unit price at approximately 48,000 RMB per set. Data from government procurement records indicates that the price of soil moisture monitoring equipment is influenced by factors such as the number of monitored parameters, sensor precision, data transmission methods, and protection ratings; generally, the more comprehensive the equipment's functionality, the higher its cost.


By continuously monitoring real-time fluctuations in parameters such as soil moisture and temperature, soil moisture monitoring equipment provides farmers with precise data to guide irrigation decisions. This effectively mitigates crop growth issues caused by either over-irrigation or under-irrigation, thereby serving as a pivotal component in the realization of automated agricultural irrigation.
