The quality of soil moisture has an impact on agricultural production and the soil ecological environment. In modern agriculture, the soil moisture monitoring station is playing an increasingly important role, providing strong support for accurately judging soil moisture.

What is considered good soil moisture? Intuitive judgment of soil moisture is mainly done by observing the color and texture of the soil. Soil with good moisture has a darker color. For example, moist black soil is deep black. This is because water fills the gaps between soil particles, changing the reflection and refraction of light, causing more light to be absorbed. When touching or digging the soil by hand, if it has a certain stickiness and can be easily kneaded into a ball, and the soil ball does not disperse immediately after being released. For example, when taking soil in the field and gently squeezing it to form a stable soil ball, it indicates good soil moisture. This is caused by an appropriate amount of water binding the soil particles.

Quantitative judgment relies on the determination of soil water content. Soil water content is a core indicator for measuring soil moisture. Generally speaking, when the soil water content is between 60% and 80% of the field capacity, the soil moisture is good. Different soil types have different field capacities. The field capacity of sandy soil is about 15% - 30%, that of loam is about 20% - 35%, and that of clay is about 25% - 40%. Nowadays, professional soil moisture sensors in the soil moisture monitoring station can accurately measure the soil water content. These sensors calculate the water content by technical means, such as measuring the dielectric constant and other physical properties of the soil. They can transmit data to the monitoring platform in real time. Their measurement results are accurate and stable and can provide a scientific basis for agricultural irrigation, greatly improving the efficiency and accuracy of soil moisture judgment.

In addition, soil moisture can also be judged based on the growth state of plants. When the soil moisture is good, plants grow vigorously, with unfolded and green leaves and upright stems. For example, in a field with good soil moisture, wheat leaves are broad, thick and bright green. This is because sufficient soil water ensures that plant roots absorb water and maintain normal physiological activities such as photosynthesis and nutrient transport. The soil moisture monitoring station can combine plant growth data to comprehensively analyze the relationship between soil moisture and plant growth, further optimizing agricultural production management strategies and realizing sustainable development and fine operation of agriculture.
