Water is the source of life, and humans cannot survive without it. In this era, there are diverse sources of drinking water. Surface water, such as that from rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, is formed by the collection of precipitation and meltwater. After being taken, it needs to undergo processes like sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection before it can be consumed. Groundwater, like well water, is relatively clear due to filtration through geological strata, but it may be polluted and also requires appropriate treatment. Moreover, its water quality varies depending on the geology, and some contain rich minerals. In areas with water shortages or where water resources are used efficiently, rainwater collection can serve as a water source, though it must be strictly purified after collection. In coastal areas, seawater can be desalinated through distillation or reverse osmosis to obtain drinking water, but seawater desalination has high costs and complex technologies.

However, regardless of the source, the water quality of domestic drinking water must be strictly and safely ensured. If the water quality is not safe, harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites can cause a variety of diseases, such as cholera, dysentery, and other intestinal diseases, which seriously endanger human health. Excessive heavy metals, such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, can cause long-term damage to the human nervous system, kidneys, and bones. Especially in public places like schools and hospitals, the safety of water use is directly related to the health of the general public and social stability.

In 1991, a severe cholera epidemic broke out in some coastal cities in Peru. The local drinking water source was contaminated by Vibrio cholerae. After residents drank the contaminated water, cholera spread rapidly. Patients suffered from severe diarrhea and vomiting, causing a large number of people to experience dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and even death in a short time.

In the 1950s, residents near Minamata Bay in Japan ate seafood contaminated with methylmercury and drank water containing mercury for a long time. Local chemical enterprises discharged mercury-containing wastewater into the bay. Mercury accumulated in the organisms in the water and entered the human body through the food chain. Many residents showed symptoms of nervous system damage, such as numbness in hands and feet, ataxia, narrowed vision, and even insanity, which seriously affected the quality of life and health level of local residents and also attracted global attention to environmental pollution and drinking water safety.

Therefore, ensuring the safety of drinking water is of the utmost importance.

This can prevent diseases and poisonings caused by microorganisms and heavy metals in water and ensure human health; it can also supervise the water quality of water sources and the water purification process to ensure the quality of water supply.

This is a Water quality monitor system for drink water based on the Internet of Things, used for online water quality monitoring at the end of the water supply. The analysis and testing unit contains sensors such as water temperature and conductivity, and the display unit has a 7 - inch touch control screen.
