Water scarcity and security are becoming important obstacles to our socio-economic development. Reservoir projects play a key role in flood control and irrigation in downstream areas and have a significant impact on promoting local economic development, and their status is crucial. Therefore reservoir safety has always been the focus and difficulty of our flood control and drought relief work.


At present, numerous small and medium-sized reservoirs have obvious shortcomings in water and rain monitoring and dam safety testing, which urgently require us to take effective measures to improve and perfect. By strengthening the safety management and monitoring capacity of reservoirs, we can ensure their safe and stable operation and help flood control and drought relief.


In the rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology today, reservoir monitoring can be completed by intelligent equipment without a lot of manpower. IoT technology can achieve real-time monitoring of key data such as water level and rainfall, and can also provide image information to improve the accuracy of monitoring.


The reservoir water level and flow monitoring system consists of three key components: data acquisition, wireless communication and monitoring centre. The industrial router in the system is the communication core, which sends data such as water level and pressure to the monitoring centre in real time via 4G/5G network.


The industrial router is equipped with RS232/RS485 serial communication interface and POE power supply function, which makes it ideal for connecting monitoring devices such as digital water level meter and IP camera, and provides a convenient way to build a dynamic monitoring system for water level in reservoirs. The monitoring system is capable of automatically collecting data such as water level, reservoir capacity and real-time video images of the reservoir, providing accurate information support for reservoir safety monitoring and dispatching management. The system can also issue real-time warning signals to help relevant departments and leaders make scientific decisions, thus improving the management efficiency and quality of reservoir projects.
