In the era of traditional agriculture, the cultivation and harvesting of crops depended heavily on natural conditions, such as climate and soil, and were therefore very much constrained by environmental factors. Agricultural technology is taught and learnt mainly through the verbal guidance of the older generation of farmers and the hands-on practice of the younger generation in the fields.
Smart agriculture makes use of advanced scientific and technological means, such as the Internet of Things, big data analysis and artificial intelligence, to optimise the agricultural production process in depth. By comprehensively monitoring a number of environmental parameters such as air temperature, humidity, soil moisture and temperature, wind direction, wind speed, light intensity, and gas concentration, smart agriculture is able to achieve finer irrigation management, pest control, and environmental monitoring.
The IoT-based agro-meteorological observation instruments include data collection sensors, monitoring hosts, power modules, communication units, and optional LED displays and cameras. These devices work together to transmit the collected meteorological data and video images to the monitoring platform in the cloud in real time via GPRS or 4G network.
The device is equipped with 1 ModBus-RTU master interface and is compatible with a wide range of sensors using RS485 communication protocol, such as tipping bucket rain sensor, wind speed sensor and wind direction sensor. It is capable of comprehensively monitoring a wide range of environmental parameters including air temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, PM2.5, PM10, atmospheric pressure, rainfall and carbon dioxide concentration.
