Urban drainage monitoring stations to prevent urban flooding

Urban drainage monitoring stations collect and monitor the operational status of the drainage network in real time through a networked system, including the status of manhole covers, water levels, flow rates and water quality. These data help managers keep abreast of urban flooding and respond quickly. The device adopts an integrated hardware and software design to directly provide a professional monitoring solution.

The system consists of three main components: sensing layer, network layer and application layer. The sensing layer includes sensors such as level monitors, which are responsible for collecting field data. The network layer transmits data to the management centre through wireless communication technologies such as 4G/NB-IoT. The application layer is a management platform responsible for data storage, querying, visualisation and analysis, as well as providing functions such as early warning, alarm, remote monitoring and command, and is the core of human-computer interaction and digital management. The whole system aims to provide real-time and accurate information for operation and management in order to make timely decisions.

Urban drainage networks are complex underground systems, and their effective management is crucial to preventing waterlogging and water pollution. Real-time level monitoring can accurately grasp the water level in the pipeline, thus improving management efficiency and safety. Long-term accumulation of monitoring data helps to analyse trends and make scientific prognosis. Combined with business systems and modelling software, a dynamic pipeline network management system can be constructed to provide data support for operational decision-making. It is recommended that one set of monitoring equipment be set up every 1 km, especially at additional pipeline intersections and repetitive points to achieve more accurate monitoring. The level monitoring station is capable of automatically collecting and transmitting data, keeping historical records, and continuing transmission at breakpoints in case of poor signals. It also provides alarms when the level is exceeded and allows remote configuration to meet different monitoring needs.
